The Battlefield 6 Open Beta Is Live Now. Is It Worth It?

Battlefield 6 is intense. Really intense. Imaging running down the street to your squad, only to look right and watch your teammates zooming by in a military Jeep and explode in the middle of the road due to the enemy team locking sights with them. Imagine finally finding the sniper who has been bullying you into submission the last 5 respawns and as you get him in your sights, a jet crashes into your face and turns you and the ground into a giant fireball. How about rushing to your downed buddy and dragging him out of harm’s way to revive (Don’t Revive Your Friends, by the way) while bullets, rockets, and tanks are whizzing by you. Battlefield 6 isn’t just intense, it’s so nerve-racking and exhilarating in such ways that I cannot stop thinking about the moments that live within the game itself.

Sure, it has moments that break the immersion. Visual glitches of stretched out objects, bodies spinning like they were the Flash in a breakdancing competition, and pieces of vehicles that move in a slower FPS than the world when exploded. This doesn’t mean it is a bad game, it just sort of takes you out for a second. That being said, all the previous things I mentioned about explosions and boom booms, yeah that is the stuff. That is what Battlefield is all about.

You no longer have to imagine the chaos.

This is just a taste of what we are getting so far in the Open Beta. I have had the pleasure of playing a few days early thanks to participating in Battlefield Labs and it has been a great time. Now, I did not dislike Battlefield 2042 but it felt just a bit off. Something not so Battlefield while sort of resembling it in a way. That being said, BF6 has upped the ante and made me feel like I want to call off work on October 10th to play the series I remember and love.

If you have been thinking of trying this iteration, I highly suggest doing so as it feels just right. You ARE going to experience some bugs as you can expect in any beta but I swear it’s a good experience. If you’ve strictly played shorter matches and less destructive FPS like Call of Duty and have not tried any of this series, you can expect to be humbled pretty quickly, but do not let it discourage you. Once you get the hang of it and find out you can take down a whole building of your enemies with a rocket, you’ll get the addiction as well.

The Battlefield 6 Open Beta runs this weekend from August 9-10 and again on August 14-17 and there is a chance to grab an early code by watching any streamers playing the game for 30 minutes (it may take an hour or more in some cases) on Twitch. Jump in and see for your self what the hype is all about!
